Jason Duckworth Speaks at a Chester County Affordable Homes Summit

Chester County, PA – Arcadia Land Company Vice-president, Jason Duckworth, speaks on the developer’s perspective at a summit on affordable housing in Chester County, PA.  The summit, entitled Under One Roof 2:  The Why, Where and How of Affordable Homes, was a follow up to the first Under One Roof event, hosted in June 2004 by the Chester County 2020 Trust, Chester County Commissioners and nearly twenty representative groups. Under One Roof 2 evolved as an attempt to take the long-identified issues of home affordability in Chester County and develop practical options for effective action.  Jason explained Arcadia’s approach to development, the process and hurdles that the development community encounters, and made references to possible solutions based on examples from other regions of the nation.

The Java’s Brewin at Woodmont

Huntingdon Valley, PA – Woodmont, the first and only Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) in Montgomery County, welcomes Java’s Brewin’ to the neighborhood.  Java’s Brewin’ is the quintessential neighborhood coffee shop—a place for Huntingdon Valley to congregate, relax and enjoy a great cup of coffee and more.  Opening is tentatively scheduled for early February 2007.

Java’s Brewin’ offers a variety of gourmet treats, in addition to their delicious coffee drinks.  They are ready to show off their signature monstrous muffins, bagels, panini sandwiches and wraps, salads, soups and pizzas in a relaxed atmosphere.  Java’s Brewin’ will offer free Wi-Fi to all of their customers, so you can stay connected during breakfast or lunch.  Or you can leave your laptop at home or work and bring a magazine, book or newspaper and relax on the comfortable couches.

Co-Owners Grace and Lou Manzi, a husband and wife team, are excited for the opening of their first Java’s Brewin’ café.  They said “Making our experience of becoming store owners even more special is the opportunity to become part of the Woodmont community. We’re extremely eager to become active members of the community and to form productive and lasting relationships with the neighbors.”

Java’s Brewin’ is located in Woodmont on Byberry Road (near Heaton Road) in Huntingdon Valley.  To reach Woodmont from the PA Turnpike, exit at Willow Grove (343) and follow Route 611 south to Fitzwatertown Road and turn left.  Fitzwatertown becomes Terwood Road.  Follow Terwood to Davisville Road and turn left, then continue to Byberry Road and turn right.  Turn left onto Heaton Road and continue to the entrance on the left.  From I-95, exit at Woodhaven Road (24)/Route 63 west and continue past Franklin Mills Mall.  Turn right onto Byberry Road and right on Reading Way.

Woodmont  is the inspiration of Arcadia Land Company, Wayne, PA-based neighborhood developers.  The TND concept is inspired by fine old neighborhoods found in America and Europe where green parks, neighbors and the coffee shop are just a short stroll down tree-lined streets.  Front porches invite relaxed gatherings and kids play games safely on broad sidewalks or explore nearby woods, searching for tiny creatures and climbing tall trees.  The homes of Woodmont represent a carefully created and strictly disciplined architectural mix reminiscent of the great towns of southeastern Pennsylvania, including Chestnut Hill, Doylestown and West Chester.  For more information, visit www.woodmontpa.com or www.arcadialand.com.

Leinberger to lead real estate program at University of Michigan

One of the earliest and strongest advocates of downtown Albuquerque redevelopment, Smart Growth and New Urbanism, real-estate investor and land-use strategist Christopher Leinberger will leave the city in July to become a visiting fellow with the prestigious Brookings Institution in the nation’s capital and a faculty member at the University of Michigan, says an Albuquerque Tribune editorial, hailing his significant role in the city’s history.

A founder and head of the public-private Historic District Improvement Co., which has spurred many downtown commercial, residential and entertainment projects, the editorial notes, Leinberger has successfully promoted downtown as ”a lucrative market for a mixture of lively ventures that appeal to a rising ‘creative class’ and others who want the option of living in a real urban environment.”

Welcoming his promise to remain active in the Historic District Improvement Co., the editorial points out that his downtown redevelopment idea ”dovetails perfectly with efforts to make the city grow more efficiently, by filling in the inner city, rather than allowing it to wither and die.” — Albuquerque Tribune 6/1/2005
